Red Salute to Comrade Iraniyan, Comrade Sivaraman and Comrade Arumugam

Comrade Iraniyan, Comrade Sivaraman, and Comrade Arumugam bravely fought against the oppression and the injustices of marginalized people towards land rights and other self respect. They actively participated in the struggle against landlords and oppressors who were against land reforms and tenant rights.

Comrade Sivaraman, fought against oppression and led the farmers with determination. On May 3, 1950, Sivaraman was assassinated in Pattukottai.

Comrade Iraniyan, hailing from Vattakudy, his hometown which he transformed it into a communist base and fought against the exploitation of landlords in Madurai at Pappa Nadu and Atthivetti. He organized agricultural laborers militantly against the Landlords and the Congress Rulers, who harshly oppressed them. He also led the struggles against the exploitation of farmers in Pattukkottai.

Iraniyan was instrumental in guiding the people with leaders like Comrade K.P. Natarajan against the struggles in Sembanur and other villages such as Karambayam and Ettupulikkadu. He supported the farmers and laborers in the estate by opposing the exploitation of the estate owners.

The Communist Party began in Ambalapattu in 1943. Comrade Arumugam, a young fire brand leader under the leadership of Comrade Punniam Kathiresan, actively participated. Ambalapattu, Madukkur was included in the estate. Arumugam fought against the landlords who imposed land tenure on 12 villages in Madukkur. He was at the forefront of the struggle against the exploitation of the farmers.

Sivaraman, Raniyan, and Arumugam were shot dead by the police in police firing on May 4, 1950. These martyrs sacrificed themselves at a young age, but their sacrifice still resonates today.”
